Giuliana Rancic: Females rocking womanhood post-breast cancer

Women may lose their breast in the battle against breast cancer every day, but the disease doesn't stand a chance against the strength of the female spirit. Here are five striking celeb examples of womanhood post-breast cancer.

GIULIANA RANCIC

On Giuliana Rancic and hubby Bill's hit Style Network show , the E! News host warmly welcomes viewers to witness everything from family tension to behind-the-scenes looks at her job. Her battle with breast cancer was no exception. Viewers saw the power couple struggle with the diagnosis, Giuliana's decision to undergo a double mastectomy, and how her diagnosis would affect the couple's struggle to conceive a child. Instead of dwelling on the negative, however, Giuliana has used her journey in the public eye to promote breast cancer awareness and to counsel other women diagnosed with breast cancer. The star certainly hasn't let the disease slow her down. She has continued to rock the red carpet in designer dresses, and she and Bill recently welcomed son, Edward, via gestational carrier.

EDIE FALCO

Diagnosed, as so many women are, through a routine breast checkup in 2003, Edie Falco remained relatively mum during her battle against breast cancer. To eradicate the disease, the actress underwent extensive treatment the following year — all the while filming her star-turning role as Carmela Soprano in HBO's now iconic series, The Sopranos. Since successfully fighting off the disease, Edie has embraced many new opportunities and faced new challenges head-on. She decided, after a string of failed relationships, to act on her desire to become a mother by adopting: first, a son, and a daughter two years later. Edie currently keeps her many fans on their toes portraying the acerbic, pill-popping title character on Showtime's Nurse Jackie.

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE

After discovering she had breast cancer in 2008, Christina Applegate — then age 36 at the time — made the difficult decision to undergo a double bilateral mastectomy to prevent the disease from returning. The actress found a source of strength in boyfriend Martyn LeNoble, whom she began dating shortly before her diagnosis. In 2010, he proposed on the beach in Palm Springs, and the cute couple happily welcomed daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble less than a year later. The actress has found happiness in her work as well: Since her breast cancer diagnosis, she has enjoyed hilarious turns in movies Hall Pass and Going the Distance, and is currently slaying us each week on the parenting sitcom-edy Up All Night.

ROBIN ROBERTS

Good Morning America host Robin Roberts has dealt with more than her fair share of struggles in the past few years -- beginning with a breast cancer diagnosis in 2007 at age 46. The gorgeous television personality attacked the diagnosis with her trademark resolve and won. She has continued to endear herself to fans, who have been showering her with support since she recently revealed that she has developed a rare blood disease due to her fight against breast cancer. Having also just lost her mother, the star could understandably take a few days to decompress and mourn. Instead, she has held fast to her optimism, saying on her blog, "My body is so weak but not my mind. YOU give me the courage to keep going."

One of rock's longtime leading ladies, Sheryl Crow has plenty to sing about these days. Between her musical endeavors -- she has won nine Grammy awards -- and life as a single mother to adopted son Wyatt, the singer stays busy in ways she considers to be great blessings... particularly since she was able to overcome her battle with breast cancer in 2006. Now a staunch advocate in the search for a cure for breast cancer, Sheryl devotes her spare time to the cause and gladly shares her story with others. Even though doctors just discovered the singer has a benign brain tumor, Sheryl shrugs it off as a minor blip and looks forward to rocking out her next big venue.
